Padres Win at Seattle, 4-2
|
San Diego pitcher Brian Bergstad had a large part in his team subduing the Seattle Pilots, 4-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the left-hander. Bergstad picked up the win for San Diego, going 8 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 7 hits. He now sports a record of 5-0. Kyle Olin collected save number 6.
Matt Lanier had a big 2-run home run for the Padres in the top of the fifth inning. With San Diego leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a splitter from Jason Razo, who finished 5th in the PL in strikeouts with 186 in 1947, and swatted a home run to center. It was his 3rd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Padres ahead, 3-0.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said San Diego manager Jeff Griggs.
San Diego is off to a hot start at 22-9.
