Whitcomb Hits for the Cycle
It was a day of mixed emotions for Shay Whitcomb. The Myrtle Beach Pelicans second baseman had little to celebrate, as one of the best games of his career was marred by a tough 12-11 loss to the Augusta GreenJackets.

Whitcomb hit for the cycle in defeat, collecting 4 hits in 5 at-bats, including 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run. The performance, however, was not enough to will the Pelicans past a red-hot GreenJackets club.

"Normally when you have a big game, it makes you feel great afterward," Whitcomb said in a quiet clubhouse following the game. "But the loss takes a lot of that away. You just want to forget today and start over."

For the day, Whitcomb finished with 4 runs batted in and 1 run scored to go with his 4 hits.

Shay Whitcomb hit a two-run home run off Juan Nunez in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI triple in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 6th and flied out in the 8th.

So far this year, Whitcomb is hitting .325 with 40 home runs.
