|
Edgar Portes of the Clearwater Threshers put on a pitching clinic at BayCare Ballpark, as he struck out 15 Lakeland Flying Tigers in a 10-0 victory. Portes, who is tied for 8th in the with a 10.7 K/9 rate, was simply magnificent, holding the Flying Tigers to 1 hit. He walked 2.
"I felt okay at the beginning," Portes said, "but eventually my changeup really started working. I also have to thank my catcher for calling a great game."
When asked about Portes's performance, Threshers manager Marty Malloy shook his head and said, "Yeah, he was good out there today. He was dominating."
Thus far this season, Portes has posted a 4-4 record, started 11 games, struck out 68 batters in 57.1 innings and compiled a 3.77 ERA.
