Smokers Fall Short, 3-2, at Alamos Town
|
The Alamos Town Nightmares withstood a fine game by Seattle right fielder Josh Zehler at Alamos Town Tower, to upend the Smokers, 3-2. Zehler went 3-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winner was Miguel Arenales in relief. His record improves to 3-4. Omar Vela took the loss. Tom Shrum was credited with the save, his 1st in 2 tries.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Nightmares had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when third baseman Joe Fitzgerald hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Omar Vela and made the score 3-2, Nightmares. Fitzgerald went 1-4.
"Tough loss," said Seattle manager Lloyd Smith. "But we'll learn from it."
Alamos Town goes to 58-43. The win puts them 2 games up in their division.
