ALAAA Best Manager, Gallagher of the North Platte Buffalos Thursday, October 16th , 1980 Allen Gallagher celebrated a successful season with the North Platte Buffalos by hosting team officials and select media at a North Platte area first-class eatery. But when he first came to town, the 1980 AL AAA Manager of the Year was met with a good measure of skepticism. "Very few people believed in our ballclub when I got here. It just goes to show you that a bunch of talented ballplayers playing together can make any old manager a genius," a modest Gallagher joked, not fully recognizing his own stature in the baseball community. However, baseball journalists duly noted his managerial skill as he skippered the Buffalos to a 73-59 record this year and a first place finish in the AL AAA East. |
