Minnesota rode a good effort from starter Marty Bystrom to beat the Kansas City Royals at Royals Stadium. The final score was 4-2. Bystrom, now 6-7, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 4, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. Steve Howe finished the game for Minnesota and earned his 13th save.
Minnesota relied on the hitting of Steve Kemp to pick up the win. The left fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Twins on top, 3-1. For the game, Kemp had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
