Giants Get Past Pittsburgh for 3-2 Win
|
Pittsburgh got a valiant performance from pitcher John Candelaria, but it wasn't enough to beat the San Francisco Giants. San Francisco won the game, 3-2. Candelaria threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Burt Hooton, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 8 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 2. His record now stands at 2-6. Earning his 4th save for San Francisco was Dave Lemonds.
San Francisco used the timely hitting of Gene Richards to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Giants on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Every loss hurts," said Pittsburgh manager Nik Hill. "But this was a tough one."
San Francisco, with the win, climbs to 11-30.
