Oilers Nip Kings, 3-2
|
The Tulsa Oilers had to overcome a good performance from Mount Vernon pitcher Frank Schuster to claim a 3-2 win at Veterans Park. Schuster went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Tulsa reliever Max Leon picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. John Sutton was tagged with the loss. Tulsa is now 62-60, Mount Vernon 60-62.
Tulsa used the clutch hitting of Tom Grieve to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a solo home run in the top of the 12th inning to put the Oilers ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a big one.
During his postgame press conference, Oilers manager Earl Torgeson told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
