Kelly Helps Minnesota Outscore Boston
Benefiting from Pat Kelly's productive game, the Minnesota Twins downed the Boston Red Sox, 14-11. Kelly went 3 for 5 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 3 for the Twins. Minnesota reliever Doug Bird got the win, raising his record to 1-1. Monty Montgomery was tagged with the loss. Minnesota used the timely hitting of Cesar Geronimo to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Twins on top, 13-11. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

Geronimo expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
