Rangers Shut Out Twins, 1-0
|
The Texas Rangers had to overcome a good performance from Minnesota pitcher Dick Ruthven to claim a 1-0 win at Metropolitan Stadium. Ruthven went 9 innings and allowed 1 run. Dennis Eckersley notched his 9th save in 15 chances. Texas, at 66-86, sits in 6th place in the American League West Division.
Texas relied on the hitting of Juan Beniquez to pick up the win. The center fielder clubbed a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Rangers on top, 1-0. For the game, Beniquez had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"There are no moral victories," said losing manager Karl Olson.
