Tight Tilt Goes to Dodgers, 3-2
|
Los Angeles rode a good effort from starter Scipio Spinks to beat the Cincinnati Reds at Dodger Stadium. The final score was 3-2. The winning pitcher was Spinks, now 11-6. He tossed 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 4. Tug McGraw got the save, the 17th for him this season.
In the bottom of the sixth, Los Angeles third baseman Ron Cey gave his team the lead. With no one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, Penguin hit his 19th home run of the year. Cincinnati pitcher Bob Knepper surrendered it. With that, the Dodgers jumped in front, 3-2.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Cey said.
The first-place Dodgers have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
