Padres Need Extra Innings to Top Astros, 1-0
|
In a well-pitched game between the San Diego Padres and the Houston Astros, pitcher Dave Rozema was superb. The San Diego right-hander helped his team win, 1-0. Tom Hume came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. His record now stands at 5-7. San Diego now sits in second place in the National League West Division at 83-63.
Runs were scarce in this one. So, Terry Mappin's at-bat in the top of the tenth was vitally important. With one out, the San Diego catcher hit a sacrifice fly, to give his team a 1-0 lead.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Mappin.
