Cruz Helps Twins Beat Tigers, 9-4
Julio Cruz was a major contributor to the 9-4 Minnesota win over Detroit. The Twins second baseman was 4 for 4 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 4 times and drove in 2. Picking up the win was Marty Bystrom. He went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. The right--hander struck out 5 and walked 3. At 70-53, the Twins claim second place in the American League West Division.

The Twins got an important contribution from right fielder Alan Bannister, who in the bottom of the third hit a curveball into left for a run-scoring double. It was his 26th double of the season and put the Twins ahead, 2-0.

In postgame comments to the Minnesota Times, Cruz said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
