Mullally Hitless, Stopped by Golden Bears Monday, February 23rd , 2060 Late in the game, all eyes in Alex Box Stadium were on Alan Mullally as he stepped into the batter box. His 21-game hitting streak was on the line, and he had a zero in the hit column on the day. Sadly for Mullally, it was not meant to be -- the zero would stay and the streak would end. If there was a silver lining for Mullally today, it was that his Louisiana State Tigers won the game anyway, stopping the California Golden Bears by the score of 4-3. "Winning took some of the disappointment out of it," Mullally told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 21 straight games. It's something I will always remember." This year Mullally is hitting .291 with 3 home runs and 9 RBIs in 13 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .391 with 9 walks and 9 runs scored. |
