Great Stroke: Ayres Gets 5 Hits

Aberdeen center fielder Ray Ayres had a big day at Ballpark of Durham today against the Kingsville Knights. The 20-year-old, who is not typically considered a big threat with the bat, went 5-for-6 and led the Ironbirds to a 17-8 triumph over Kingsville .
"Hey, I'm as surprised as you guys are," Ayres said in his postgame comments, smiling as he scolded the press corps for underestimating him. "Maybe I'm not so bad at the plate after all."
Ray Ayres singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and hit a two-run single in the 8th.
This year Ayres has hit at a .351 pace and produced 8 RBIs, 1 home run and scored 4 runs.
