Wood 5-for-6 for Mavericks Sunday, May 28th , 2062 Even as a kid, Charlie Wood said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At The Dust Bowl today, Wood showed how well he learned that lesson. The 30-year-old left fielder had 5 hits in 6 at-bats for the Miramar Mavericks, helping his team knock off the Calgary Cowboys by a score of 7-1. "They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did today." Charlie Wood singled in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
