AZL Reliever of the Year Award Winner Named

Sal Romano was a calming influence out of the AZL Angels bullpen this season.

His teammates and manager said he had a poised demeanor about him that was typical of someone much older and more experienced. His poise has paid off, as the 18-year-old turned in a sparkling season and has been named the winner of the Arizona League Reliever of the Year Award for 2012.

The Syosset, New York native won the award with 14 saves in 30 relief appearances, 32 strikeouts in 34 innings and a record of 3-1 to go with his 1.06 ERA.

He received 10 first place votes out of a possible 12. Martin Abad of the AZL Angels finished second in voting with 2 first place votes, while Miguel Almonte of the AZL Angels finished third.
