Joe Panik Chosen SOUL's #1 Player

He may have less experience than most of his Southern League peers, but that didn't slow Joe Panik down at all in 2012.
At the age of 21, the Birmingham second baseman has been named the winner of the Southern League Most Valuable Player Award.
He had a .302 batting average and a .362 on-base percentage this year. In 129 games he piled up 156 hits, 37 doubles, 3 triples, 10 home runs, 72 RBIs and 75 runs scored.
"I'm blown away by the season I was able to put together," he said. "I'm looking forward to trying to do it all again next year."
He received 6 first place votes out of a possible 10. Jose Iglesias of the Birmingham Barons finished second in voting with 4 first place votes, while Eric Hosmer of the MIssissippi Braves finished third.
