The Columbus Catfish did little to support starter Kirk Saarloos against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, but it turned out he didn't need the help.

The right-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Pelicans, striking out 7 and surrendering 5 hits. The performance from Saarloos allowed Columbus to escape with the 2-0 win, despite an anemic offense.

"Nobody came to me and said, 'Kirk, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Saarloos told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it."
