Atlanta Gets 12-7 Win
|
The Atlanta Kings besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Los Angeles third baseman D.J. Rivera by beating the Cobras, 12-7, at Cobras Ballpark. Rivera was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Mike Hawkins, the winning pitcher, improved to 3-2. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 6 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 4. The Kings with just their 8th win in 27 games, have played uninspired baseball so far.
Atlanta used a clutch at-bat from Gustavo Navarro to capture the win. The right fielder hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Kings ahead, 5-4. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"We took home the win," said Navarro. "What's not to like?"
