The Portland Lumberjacks knocked off the Denver Rocketeers, 6-3, in American Baseball Conference action at Portland Grounds. Portland pitcher and Revere, Massachusetts, native David Rodriguez had an outstanding performance. Rodriguez got the win, improving to 2-1. He gave up 6 hits and walked 3 over 7 innings. He allowed 3 runs. Picking up the save was Frank Jahr, his 2nd.
Jeremy Campbell had a big grand slam home run for the Lumberjacks in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Portland trailing 3-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Damian Serano, who is tied for 7th in the ABC in complete games with 1, and swatted a home run to right. It was his 8th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Lumberjacks ahead, 4-3.
"David pounded the strike zone and made good pitches when he needed to," said Portland manager Tim Staheli.
Despite the win, Portland, now 7-17, is off to a terrible start.
