The first-place El Paso Bobcats took on the River City Pirates in front of a spirited crowd.

The El Paso Bobcats picked up a win at Bobcats Park, knocking off the River City Pirates, 5-3. On the mound for El Paso was right-hander Steve McGinnis. He played a key role in the triumph. Matt Shelor earned his 42nd save in 45 chances.

El Paso took a 4-1 lead on Travis Oliver's 38th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Oliver hit in the bottom of the seventh, left River City pitcher Eric Corson visibly frustrated.

"Steve pounded the strike zone and made good pitches when he needed to," said El Paso manager .

El Paso raised its record to 93-63 with the win.
