The Austin Wreckers besoiled an otherwise fine performance by River City second baseman Jose Alvarez by beating the Pirates, 8-7, at Austin Stadium. Alvarez was 4-5 with a triple, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Austin pitcher Dave Hernandez earned the win, hiking his record to 5-5. Jorge Aguirre suffered the loss. The Austin win streak is now 3 games.

The decisive blow was delivered by Craig Plew in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a 2-run double off 32-year old right-handed pitcher Jorge Aguirre to win the game for Austin. The home crowd went nuts.

"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Plew.
