The home crowd had a good time watching the Massachusetts Mothmen and Long Beach Polecats get after it.

Long Beach Polecats starter Eddie Humpert pitched his team past the Massachusetts Mothmen, 5-1. Humpert, now 7-4, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run.

Nick Schmidt had a big 2-run double for the Polecats in the bottom of the third inning. With Long Beach leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a slider from 26-year old left-handed pitcher Jonathan Searfoss and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 29th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Polecats ahead, 3-0.

"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Humpert said.

The last-place Mothmen now sit at 46-56.
